MINISTER OF ADULT EDUCATION
Tim Scorer
Tim Scorer is a
freelance educator, writer, facilitator and spiritual director. For 24 years he
was on the program staff and management team at Naramata Centre in BC, one of
the United Church’s retreat and education centres. Following that he was a staff
associate at Penticton United Church, where he had responsibility for small
group ministry, leadership formation, and spiritual development.
Tim teaches programs such as spirit-centered leadership, spiritual practice, experiential Bible study, and small group facilitation. For the past three summers at Naramata Centre he has collaborated with a Muslim scholar and a Jewish rabbi in creating a sacred space of learning, worship, and transformation.
During the past four years he has created three adult curriculum resources in the ‘Experiencing Faith’ series – all based on books by Marcus Borg. His experiential learning guide to accompany Bruce Sanguin’s book, Darwin, Divinity, and the Dance of the Cosmos, was released in January 2009.
Tim consults with congregations, presbyteries and conferences of the United Church of Canada in matters such as team relationship, conflict resolution, organizational effectiveness and leadership formation. He is part of an initiative in BC Conference of the United Church to develop and maintain a network of spiritual care givers for people in ministry. He is an active member of Spiritual Directors International.
Tim's life is deeply rooted in family. He and his wife, Donna, live on Bowen Island right next door to their daughter, her husband and their two sons who in 2009 are 9 and 11. Daily family interaction is an unavoidable joy! One of Tim and Donna's sons lives in Burnaby and is frequently on Bowen exercising his landscaping and horticultural skills in helping Tim in the shaping of their hillside garden. Their second son visits from Edmonton with his wife and young son occasionally via Air Canada and often on internet through Skype.
In September 2009 Tim joined the ministry team at St. Andrew's-Wesley United Church where he holds a quarter-time position in adult faith formation.
